Crystal Blue Disguise

His eyes hold many secrets.
He won’t ever tell you lies.
But darkness is seen lurking,
Behind his crystal blue disguise.

A sparkle so full of life,
So blue.
Many stories to tell,
So true.

You can’t help but notice the dark.
You beg for the truth.
He decides to confess.
The truth, straight from his tooth.

Unsure of how to explain,
“Organ failure is the case, you know.”
Tears fill your eyes and flow.
You ask, “How long ‘til you go?”

Not wanting the answer,
You still listen, ears wide open.
“Not past thirty, my darling.”
Your heart is now broken.

He begins to grow sick and frail.
Six months later you hold his hand.
“I love you with all my heart.”
You stay until the end.

You realize you’ll miss his tales,
And the sparkle in his eyes.
All the secrets lurking,
The crystal blue disguise.

You’re ready to let go,
Breaking all the ties.
The color is fading
From his deep blue eyes.

In the bed he lay,
Looking broken and alone.
You wish with all your heart,
Just to take him home.

He takes his last breath.
He closes his eyes.
You know there is nothing left
Behind his crystal blue disguise.
