Demons

Demons
We all have demons that we hide,
We put them away, set them aside,
There's voices in the back of my mind, I find,
They're screaming so loud, can't put them behind.
They consume our bodies,
take over our soul,
But we hide them,
bury them deep into a hole.
But they are still there, they still listen,
They still taunt us in our dreams.
They still laugh, they still mock,
They still tear us apart from the seams!
“Don't worry dear child, these shadows, they are not real!
A figment of your imagination is what it is,
what is your deal? Let God take the wheel!”
“But mother, can't you see?!
These scars, these wounds, they will not heal!
They will not fade! The devil is on a mission,
and he wants me as his meal!”
“Daughter, don't be foolish! Your fear overtakes you!
Close your eyes, get some rest,
and with faith, the light will shine through.”
“But-”
“Hush! No more tears, no more sorrow,
Quit your crying, you will awaken tomorrow!”
There was an anger in her voice,
with a tremble of hesitation,
she left the room, shut off the light,
turned on the darkness, and out came the confrontation.
The demons creep and crawl on my body,
it leaves my stomach twisted and knotty.
I feel cold hands on my spine,
but the demon interlocks his fingers with mine,
they intertwine.
We are one;
look what I have become.

The next day, I smile with affection,
as I look into my reflection,
and I see my infections, my imperfections.
My demon and I , we have a connection.
We ARE our demons,
so you can not run.
They will find you,
they are embedded in your skin,
just like a tattoo.
With the beast inside,
there's nowhere to hide.
