I've Got a Secret

I've got a secret
A secret you can't tell
I've got a secret
One I know very well

It started with goodbye
It ends with hello
It ended when I arrived
And starts when I go

It is of purple flowers
It is of green decor
It has a white window
And a sky blue door

It is my secret place
This secret I must say
You can come there too
If it's a rainy day

Just close your eyes
Squeeze them tight
But only if you plan
To not go to sleep at night

This place is full of bad dreams
Nightmares and fears
This place will make you cry
The most frightened tears

It's okay, don't worry
I'll be there too
Maybe not by your side
But scaring you

For I am a monster
In my secret place
If you take one look at me
You won't recognize my face

I'm the scariest of villains
I'm the monster within
For my secret place is yours
Don't you remember my grin?

The sharp teeth from
Your childhood
When you saw me coming
You knew it wasn't good

I am your deepest fear
Your darkest secret
If you tell anyone
It's something you'll regret

So hush little baby
Don't say a word
Or I'll squash you
Like a tiny bird

And if you do happen to
Say a peep
I'll be at your place
Waiting to creep

So keep that secret
You don't want to tell
If you do
I'll make your life hell

Everyone always had a monster they were familiar with growing up... I wrote this poem from the monster's perspective. They think it's just a game, toying with little kids and adults alike and I thought it would be fun to write from their point of view... No, not fun, creepy as all get out! I had to check my closet three times after writing this. THREE. It brings back too many memories of my childhood night terrors.
