Gone

So lost and confused
My mind is a maze I can’t discern
As I try to gather my thoughts
They slip right through my fingers

Love, where are you?
Can you show me that you truly exist?
Or shall you remain hidden
Sparing my heart the ache?

Darling, where have you gone?
Just as we begin something new
You vanish from my life
So close, yet so far away

Don’t you realize
The obstacles pushing us apart?
Don’t you care enough
To open your eyes

Perhaps you see it, you know
And other matters take precedence
In your capable mind
How am I to know?

Before the waves crash down
And the wind sweeps me away
Please, love, tell me
Is there something for which to fight?

Our time has been brief
But I will never forget
Your touch, your smile
Gentle, yet so strong

As tears fill my eyes
I blink them away
Lost in my sorrows, your silence

They say, if you love something
Let it go
But if you were never mine
Is this still so?

For as long as this predicament
Lingers in my mind
You remain alive to me, in life, in thoughts

As a scarlet petal falls to the ground
Its fragrance lingers
But eventually fades

Though I hold it in my hand
Its essence slips away
Leaving only a shell of what once was
A memory imprinted, never to leave my side
