The Solace of Sleep
The day's joy has faded
Not unlike the sun
To a despairing nighttime setting
Plagued by a starless sky
As I lay my bruised and broken back
Onto the hard concrete
Of my mattress
I let the air from my lungs in a solemn sigh
Slowly my vision fades
Into an aimless dreamless drifting
Where the feeling of pure loneliness
Can be forgotten, just for a bit
The contortions of my mind
Are whisked away in the wind
And for just the smallest moment
I can exist again
Not unlike the sun
To a despairing nighttime setting
Plagued by a starless sky
As I lay my bruised and broken back
Onto the hard concrete
Of my mattress
I let the air from my lungs in a solemn sigh
Slowly my vision fades
Into an aimless dreamless drifting
Where the feeling of pure loneliness
Can be forgotten, just for a bit
The contortions of my mind
Are whisked away in the wind
And for just the smallest moment
I can exist again
