Broken Ballerina
There once was a broken ballerina
Standing all alone
She no longer spun or pirouetted
Something had to be done
She had lost that little key
That sparks her fragile dance
Without it she can never twirl
Her heart trapped by a fence
What made her this way, you ask
What shattered her glass soul?
What took away her innocence?
Turned her into a mare from a foal
The answer, simple as that, is this
Sadness and anger break the heart
Frustration and defeat break the spirit
This dancer is now just art
Be mindful of the words you speak
The punches you may land
Because the victims rarely fight back
They keep their feelings canned
And then, in one swift action
That anger and hate runs free
And only the veterans can survive
With hearts of diamond, like me
I am a ballerina
And I will continue to dance on
But I can't be fixed or broken more
My heart is a diamond, bright as a sun
My soul fights for civil rights
My heart fights for me
My spirit bends but never breaks
My mind, my love, is free
Standing all alone
She no longer spun or pirouetted
Something had to be done
She had lost that little key
That sparks her fragile dance
Without it she can never twirl
Her heart trapped by a fence
What made her this way, you ask
What shattered her glass soul?
What took away her innocence?
Turned her into a mare from a foal
The answer, simple as that, is this
Sadness and anger break the heart
Frustration and defeat break the spirit
