I Was Happy Then

All the odds are against us.
We stand 43 miles apart, I'm in Chesapeake while you're in Newport News.
It's saddening really.
I miss your touch and the warm summer nights.
The sweet air and stolen kisses. I was happy then.

Now it's fall and school has begun.
Our visits a weekend ordeal, we only have ten hours together.
It's colder now and I'm alone.
No one to cuddle with, I feel like stone.
Soon it'll be winter and surely I'll freeze.
I might die of this loneliness disease.
It's in your arms where I am happy and whole.
Our pictures in frames only a reminder a our past summer.
The smiles we held and kisses we shared. I was happy then.
