Frozen Waterfall

frozen waterfall
reflecting sunlight
shards of movement
hovering above the frigid
slow-moving water
beneath it

the rock is cold,
that I sit on
drinking Coffee
watching the frozen
snapshot of time
that should have been
in motion

in the distance
I can see cars on the
busy highway
no slowing down
no pausing for breath
proof of civilization
so different
from the waterfall

my CD player
droning on in a
high tenor
out of place in this
this petrified
winter wilderness
but the music behind
the trembling voice
fits perfectly

I cannot return tomorrow
unfortunately
this quiet place
tempts me to stay
permanently
but I must keep moving
so different
from the frozen waterfall
it seems so content
to stay suspended
in time.
