The Notes on Your Wrists

every night you write down how much you hurt,

that you don't know why you're here and what you're worth,

you write that pain down on your wrists,

every cut just like a long list,

showing what hurt you was deeper than this cut,

showing the world you're stuck in a rut,

but for one moment consider your life,

make lines with a paint brush instead of a knife,

show them how that really feels,

paint them a picture of how else you deal,

portray the picture on a blank sheet of paper,

don't let them make your life wager,

a picture is worth 1000 words,

it just takes one picture to show how you hurt,

paint on a blank canvas not on your arms,

people will be able to see it without you having to cause self harm,

use a pencil to write down all the things they've done wrong,

show them that you are indeed strong,

it doesn't take blood to show you're in pain,

it doesn't take a life to show them that you were sane,

it just takes a few words or even just one piece of art,

to tell them how you hurt and what's really tearing you apart.
