Old Romance

Whatever happened to old romance?
To the days of long-handed love letters and rain?
And why did the thrill of the dance
die when the music stopped playing?

What happened to the age of chivalry?
To virtues like honour and truth?
And why is love’s immortality
lost on the vitality of youth?

When did the slow bloom of affection
give way to passion’s conflagration?
And why do deep emotional connections
mean less than the rush of physical sensations?

When did gentlemen stop trying
and ladies start to settle?
The art of the courtship is dying.
To resurrect it, only we few have the mettle.
