When I Say Hello

When I say “hello,” it’s not just “hello.”
It’s, “Thank you, Jehovah, for this day of life
so that I may breathe the same air as her.
For my eyes so that I may look longingly
upon that beautiful smile.
And for my heart
so that it may beat quicker
the nearer she is to me.”

And when I say “good-bye,”
what I really mean is:
“I’m dying
because I am only alive
when I can show you how much I love you.”

And when I say, “I love you,”
what I’m trying to tell you is:
“Never before has a man loved a woman
like this.
And though I will never be worthy of you,
I promise to never stop trying.”
