Blowing Candles

Another life gone, another year past
Hair growing long and days going fast
As we watch sunsets burst and our kidneys shatter
We swallow our pills and drown in the chatter

Another tie straightened and hair slicked back
Start as a child, then we're bones in a sack
As we're blowing candles and our souls blow away
The tree by our window grows stronger each day

Another glass of champagne and another black coffin
Smiles painted on faces and hearts going rotten
Kicking pebbles and stones on the side of the road
We wilt for the last time while planets explode

Hands scrubbed clean with soap and water
Another job lost and we're sent to be slaughtered
As we lay on the grass and stare up at the clouds
We put humanity to shame and make parents proud

Another heart gasping; another person to love
Stumbling head over heels as we're given a shove
By those who dare to dream and are brave to hope
In this mundane existence - they know how to cope

Another failure and another mistake
We say we are blessed but our lives all are fake
As we pray to the devil while fearing God
We violate the pure and stab stakes through the heart

Another city burning, another star-stained face
Man surrenders and counts his last days
And in the end we were all just humans
Intoxicated by standing in our own ruins.
