Just a Friend?

She is more than that, with her brunette curtain of hair and her blue-green eyes,
She always has hope, she never gives up and this princess endlessly tries.

But how can she fight when her wings are being torn apart by doubt?
How can she be free when she refuses to let these demons out?

Leave her be, support her, don't damage her spirit, as she is a beautiful bird,
She is also more than that, she is no longer afraid, there are no words.

She is ready for the night to break her, take her, but take her it never will,
She has broken many times before, but she refuses to let hope spill.

She keeps it in a glass box by her bedside, so the night may leave her,
She prays before she sleeps, but not to a God, she's in such despair.

She will never be just a friend, a sister too and a saviour,
Someone who knows when to be there and when to care.

Don't tear her wings unless you know her story and when you find out,
You won't even dare to burn this angel, so before you shout.

Listen, to her music and to her voice, read her wondrous work and realise,
How she is more than just a friend, see how she can open your eyes.

I love her, I need her, but I can no longer rely on her to make me smile,
She has her own life and I have mine, but I hope it lasts for a while.

When we embrace one another like it's the very first day,
We're meeting again and I have so much to say.

But I've known her for so long now, yet it feels even longer,
Her wings are breaking, yet they still make me stronger.

She casts them aside, she fights the defeating voices,
She inspires many, I've heard their rejoices,

Singing please save this bird, before she falls to the ground,
She promises she wont make the slightest sound.

But why shouldn't she shout like a true leader can?
Why can't they all seem to understand?

How this bird, will still fly, even if they rip off her wings,
Their cruel words won't ever stop her from dreaming.

She is free, she is smiling and that's all she deserves,
She doesn't need to fly to feel conserved.

She has us, she has trust and I hope she can trust me,
Because she isn't just a friend to me, you see.

She's a bird.

She's an angel.

And a love her so much, there are simply no more words.

And if you think she can't fly, soon you'll see how she will.

Just a friend never stays by you when you hold them down,
And they'll never forgive you when you hurt them somehow.

But this friend, she forgave me, she cared for me and she saved me,
Which is why she isn't just a friend, you see.

They say I can't rely on friendships to save me,
But thanks to them, I no longer bleed.

I was foolish, I was stupid, but now, I'm finally free,
Thanks to that sister-like friend who saved me.

I am bound to this bird till the very end.
And she will forever be more than just a friend...
