Daydream

Midday.
You lie next to me, papery skin smooth with summer.
A deluge of memories comes chugging in like
A train late for departure.
Networks of connections linger peacefully
In the small illusory gap
Between your elbow and mine.
And here we are, forgotten like war heroes,
Veins still coursing with the steady thrum of battle.
And here we are, fallen statues of angels
In this nostalgic meadow of myriad promises.
Time passes and the day progresses.
We have not moved an inch yet it has taken
Miles and miles
Of smiles and pain
To be here, feeling your mind again through the cobwebs
Of seasonal haze, languid and modest,
A courtesy to be extended to the roughest of seas.
The evening crawls towards me, blind and shallow,
And I feel the cool grass, sticky against my back
Get up, and begin my day again
In the shadow of your love.
