Odontoglossums

"Look," she said
Pivoting her head
As we walked hand in hand
Through the streets of Oswestry.
Her supple fingers
Slipped through mine
Like a cat through a picket fence
Or adolescent rebels on the run,
And I glanced
To see what had caught her wily eye this time.
"See, sis? Odontoglossums,"
And elder me, beguiled by the pretty things
-Nature's whores, really-
Became entranced by their perfumed posies
That lay in front of us, side by side - soldiers, really.
In the Saturday morning hubbub
Of proletarian traffic
They saw us too, and flirted keenly with our purses,
Charming us like snakes
Towards their petalled prowess.
Oh, they were experienced, for sure
-They knew the weakness of women
For an eye-catching bunch of flowers -
Ephemeral beauties, really.
As we inhaled their fragrant fronds,
We suddenly glanced upon the murky sky
And threw the orchids into the air -
Without a care, we sidestepped merrily
Through the thunderstorm we had made
And laughed as if to say,
It was all a game, really.

A quick Google search will reveal odontoglossum is a genus of orchids. Being quite the plant lover, I saw these and I was absolutely taken aback by their beauty. Nature truly is wonderful.
