A Mother

Dear sweet mother lay your body down,
Calm your nerves and settle your mind,
Your brittle bones hold a heart of stone,
Not one bit of terrible things you'll find,

Lonely dreamer lay your mind to ease,
Remember all the things you are for,
Like shade in the heat and a cool summer breeze,
I know you will soon find rest apon the shore,

And you hear the whisper of your mother's words,
Telling you she is at peace,
But I see her picture on the mantle you look t'wards,
When we speak, her memory ceased,

Dear kind family keep your voices down,
Save this moment for your days of old,
Don't let your life fade into the clouds,
Tell me more of things untold,

I remember the words I dreaded to hear more,
Because our hearts had fallen deep into the floor,
And now I feel as if this is happening as it did before,
Dear sweet mother, don't go unto that shore
