"Barren"

I don't believe in fairytale endings.
A Prince in name is nothing more.
The happy beginning with so much promise
Doesn't hold the same wonder as before.
I don't believe in starry wishes.
No truth shines brighter than reality.
The hope conveyed to an unreachable sky
Is an illusion created with insanity.
I don't believe in dream-laced promises
Made with lies you don't intend to keep.
The partial truths that left those lips
Are broken vows that make it hard to breathe.
I don't believe in light-filled dreams.
Awake or sleeping the heart remains bare.
A bleak reminder of what was stolen
That turned life into such shadowed nightmares.
I don't believe in love-dripped words.
A poison will always taste so sweet.
The bitterness that's to only be left over
Rings through my ears at such defeat.
I don't believe in fantasized hope.
A wish or dream will always stay the same.
They're softened aches that can never belie
The barren reality that will still remain.
