Ashen Curse in the Woods of Eden

I awoke in a forest
devastation surrounded where I lay
the pungent scent of ash and charred wood
danced inside my nostrils
a wicked ballet of tragedy

where life and vivid colors used to coincide
it was apparent I was among a wasteland
beauty died this day

the moon illuminated the trees above
this natural light
disturbed me
at the same time,
made me weep

I approached a man hanging from a noose
the cold touch of death constricted my body
somehow it comforts me
the only promise that wont be broken

I closed my eyes
only to find I was the man that hung
swaying from the branches of a dead elm tree
a morbid fantasy
finally achieved
a short struggle
now I rest eternally
