On Beauty

Is there anything prettier about a tear
from black-rimmed green gems falling on porcelain skin,
or angry red lines on smooth and skinny thighs?

Are angry words less harsh from plump and painted lips,
or evil thoughts kinder hidden beneath
glossy and straightened gold locks?

Do designer clothes cushion the blow of
hateful words, or a large house
fill the empty cavity where a heart used to live?

Can a faster car open a cold heart
or the newest technology
change narcissism to kindness?

Maybe vanity and luxurious are simply
how the hurt and those who made them that way
hide from themselves.
