How Dare You Say Forever

How dare you say forever
How dare you let me feel things
Imagine things
How dare you let me picture long nights in your arms
Implying that you’ll be there in the morning
Figuring out the potential we had together
With such similar dreams and ambitions
Even daring to think that maybe
Just maybe
Someday somehow I might see your face in a fantasy
Of white dresses and silver bells
And chapels with flowers and music and rings and promises
How dare you define our love as eternal
And then have the audacity to decide when eternity ends
As much as I wanted the definition of the word love to include the word forever
I know that is not always the case
So how dare you put those words together
And allow those definitions to collide
Love is strong but it is singular
You can mean it once and not always mean it again
But forever is a concept
It is ongoing and constant
If you say it once it is out there for the entirety of its possibly conceptualized existence
Forever is not a word that can be retracted because forever defines its span
As soon as it is said
How dare you say forever
When I was in fifth grade
Our math class taught us about
Lines
Rays
Points
And segments
Lines went on non-stop in both directions
Rays in one direction
Segments were defined by two points
And those points signified a start or an end
Love is a segment
An A and a B notated by a short mark above the letters
No arrows
A start and an end
For all intents and purposes of a problem it is wholly measurable
But does not necessarily need anything on either end
It can exist all on its own
Or
Sadly
It can be two points on a line
But love is a segment
And denying that does no good
But you did not define us as segment AB
You defined us as line AB
Where points were only there to tell us which line to look at
But possibilities stretched in each direction forever
How dare you say forever
I wrote my answers in pen
Being told that we were living on line AB
While you were always bad at math
And only intended to work from the
Simpler notion of a segment
And I’m stuck on ray BA
Looking back on forever
How dare I even think forever
Because I can’t tell what happened in one direction
But in the direction that matters
There’s nothing more to see
How dare you flip logic on its end
And tell me that I cannot find X
And try to cancel out my calculations
Thinking that dividing by zero is a finite impossibility
When I know that all it does is reveal the concept of infinity
Infinite
Forever
How dare you say forever
How dare you tell me that I cannot define words
When every word has a definition for a reason
How dare you love me
How dare you let me love you
How dare you stop loving me
How dare I keep loving you
How dare you
How dare you
How fucking dare you
Say forever
