War

A little boy in silence stands,
As tears stream down his cheeks,
Ready to bury his father,
After two long painful weeks.

His father was a soldier,
Brave and strong and true,
Who fought for his country,
For people like me and you.

Slowly he moves towards the grave,
Where his fathers company stood,
Their eyes reflacted his haunted look,
As they lowered the box made of metal and wood.

Each soldier there was family.
Their uniforms worn with pride,
To honour their fallen comrade,
To represent his army side.

The little boy took two more steps,
And tugged a soldiers sleeve,
The chosen soldier took a knee,
To hear words no one would believe.

'My daddy was the bravest man,
In the whole wide world,
And I know that he is watching us,
As his final day unfurled.

I know he was your brother,
He talked about you loads,
I just want you to know I think of you,
When you walk those dangerous roads.

Each night I pray for your safety,
And an end to this terrible war,
I often hear of soldiers deaths,
Another persons blood on the floor.

Listen to me closely,
For my words are from my heart,
Soldiers are true heros,
Whether you live, or you depart.

Death does not take your honour,
Nor erase your soul from life,
For I am a true believer,
That you're there through happiness and strife.

People do not seem to see,
For they think I am too young,
That when I hear an army song,
The true meaning is unsung.

I may be small, but understand,
I know the price you give,
My father gave his entire life,
So that others shall live.

The soldier stood, with tears in eyes,
And placed his hand over his heart,
And with a wink he turned away,
For the ceremony to start.

Don't underestimate a childs brain,
They know more than you think,
Even something as scary as war,
Has a child's brain on the brink.

To all our fallen soldiers,
To the families of the dead,
My heart and thoughts are with you,
Although the words remain unsaid.

As for the men still fighting,
For those who remain true,
Remember that love does follow,
And that people believe in you.
