Selfish

I know I've been selfish,
I didn't need to hurt you.

But now my only wish,
Is to always stay true.

I will be what I can,
I will understand.

And I know how you are,
One of the brightest stars.

Because you taught me,
How to roam these skies.

You set my heart free,
And I discarded my lies.

You whispered secrets,
About your regrets,
But I judge you never,
For this is forever.

And I won't do what I did,
I know that life is splendid.

And that some are dying,
Their tears keep streaming,
Yet here I am crying,
Because I'm not dreaming.

I need to get a grip,
Before I soon slip,
I know that I'll trip,
But I'll find my ship.

I'll sail away,
To a better day.

A future I have made,
All my debts paid.

Hope in a thousand eyes,
Wearing not a disguise.

Only beauty on their face,
And halos filled with grace.

We'll leave this cell,

That is our own adventure.

Never again be selfish.

For we are a nation,
In need of celebration.

Never ever selfish.

For death's pure kiss.

We will be selfless,
We'll do our best.

Straying from darkness,
For life is never a test.

There is no prize,
Only compromise,
And in these eyes,
There are no lies.

For I am selfless now,
My heart is cleansed,
And somehow,
I will make amends.

But for today,
I will say,
That I'm okay,
Being this way.

I won't admit defeat.
