Sense

hear the cries of drowning birds
gasping for a final breath
flood my sailboat full of words
speak of evil, withered death

see the ashes on the floor
gray like dawn above the sea
empty windows, open door
crashing down on you and me

feel the winds of ancient wings
webbed and deadly, angel hands
beauty comes to righteous kings
ruling over righteous lands

smell the salt upon the air
as the ocean crawls to shore
find we more than heaven there?
but there must be nothing more

taste the poison sickly-sweet
softer than the void of space
dark night rises 'neath my feet
never was a safer place

to hear
to see
to feel
to smell
to taste the end
