Deep in the Heart of Texas

The lightening crack,
A brilliant flash
Striking her heart,
But it doesn’t disappear,
It doesn’t pass.
The pain lingers
As the heat boils her blood.
The rage burns within her
As the grief tears her apart.

Her eyes are the betrayal
Of all she tries to hide,
Revealing the war that wages
The battle she’s losing
Everything she holds inside.

She loves him more than anything.
Her heart she gave to him,
But now his absence leaves a void,
A emptiness that dwells within.

And now she is alone
As she stands beside his grave.
The dark clouds shroud the sun,
Casting shadows over her
As she cries in the rain.

The battle continues inside of her
Like the worst of Texas storms,
But through everything,
She smiles at the comparison
Because it was
Deep in the heart of Texas
The man she loved was born.
