You'll Forget This

Water falls down
That’s not something you just found out or a lie
It’s a fact
One you’re very clear on as you watch

Watch because you’re not the recusing type
No, never the hero – not you. You’re the kind that likes to be saved
Though you have a strong stomach so things like this don’t bother you, do they?
Things like blood and drowning and cries

You’re also proud of that strong mind of yours aren’t you?
You fucked up little shit. Those screams are from a voice you know well aren’t they?
Good head on your shoulders, calm, and a strong sense of self-preservation
You know better than to jump into a situation that won’t end well for you – and you’re proud of that
And you should be
You’ve done good keeping yourself alive and well these last few years
You learn quickly
You’re smart
You have a lovely smile
And you’re also to blame

You wanted to come here – wanted to see these rocky caves
Old, stunning, and dangerous
The ones the tour guide said had a nice crystalline waterfall with an underwater cave
You just had to go exploring didn’t you? See those caves for yourself? You dumb fuck.
But you didn’t know – couldn’t have
That there was something in the water
In that enchanting underwater cave just waiting for its next meal
The meal that should’ve been you
But it wasn’t, was it?

You’re good at screaming
You have great lungs
With little need for air you let one fly didn’t you?
Loud and clear
Horrified and attention grabbing enough for someone to hear you
To came save you
To take your place

Though I take back that thing about it being your fault
You didn’t ask for him to save you did you?
No
You just screamed – louder and louder
He’s the one that jumped in after you
A rock in hand – and suddenly the water was tinted red
Not yours or his but its
He dragged your petrified body to the edge and pushed you out of the water
Though when he went to climb out himself you saw something didn’t you?
A shadow
One swimming at you and him from under the water

You’ll blank this out
You sick little shit, it’s your fault. Your entire fault. He was almost out! You selfish fuck.
You thought it was coming for you
You were scared, you were trembling, you were crying – you knew you had to distract it or it would get you

All you did was push
Just a small nudge, but his hands were wet and the rock was slippery
He fell back with a splash
You’ll block this out but –
He called your name! Your fucking name.
His voice was so very fearful
It rung out almost as loud as one of your screams

Water falls down
You’ll take note of this as you watch the water from the waterfall drop
Rapid and heavy
Pushing his body down after that thing finally let him go

Don’t worry you’ll blank this out
You’re good at that
Forgetting things
Pushing them down so deep inside your mind not even a therapist with a sledgehammer and pickaxe could reach them

You’ll forget this
Just like you forgot that

“The waterfall sure is pretty, it’s one of the places I’d recommend visiting before you leave, but everyone – stay away from the water. Something fierce lives down there.”

It's all your fucking fault

(I hope this isn't too confusing. I've been told that it is, but...I like it)
