Imagine II

Imagine.

Imagine you went swimming in a lake.

Imagine you've jumped off the dock into the cool water below.

Imagine you're swimming along, far away from shore, when you begin to get tired.

Imagine you look around, hoping to see someone to help you, but there is no one paying attention to you.

Imagine you begin to tread water.

Imagine you're frantically trying to keep your head above water, trying to gasp in as much air as you possibly can.

Imagine your head bobs below water. Your head becomes cold as you put more energy into keeping afloat.

Imagine you call for help, but it's muted by all the sounds around you. A girl playing Marco Polo with her friends. A boy water skiing. The lifeguard whistling at a young child running on the docks.

Imagine your legs and arms aching and your chest feeling as if it were going to explode.

Imagine feeling the air leave your body as you try to keep your head above water.

Imagine the seaweed wrapping around your ankles almost as if to invite you below.

Imagine losing hope that someone will notice you. You stop treading water.

Imagine your body falling below the water. You're still awake. You feel the weight of the water pushing down on you.

Imagine thinking about how hard it was to stay up there, how hard it was on your body, on your mind, on your emotional state.

Imagine sinking further down, letting the seaweed envelope you.

Imagine having depression.

Imagine.
