Protection

After all these years her light's diminished.
She's just a girl so small, drowning in the water.
She hides on the inside, she's made her walls stand tall,
a perfect fortress to keep her from the fall.

She hardly ever speaks aloud
only shouting words in her head,
clever things each day, she should have said
but she was afraid someone would hear them.

Now she goes to school, her soul unfed
each night, at home she rests her bones.
Sad, among the living dead
she waits for the day, to break the chains
of protection that her mind made to save her soul.
