Can You Blame Us?

We tell you that we hate school
You laugh in our faces,
You say " Some people can't even go to school, stop being ungrateful "
I get that I'm lucky, I get an education
But honestly I can't wait 'til graduation.
Everyday is the same, you talk about equality
Yet not once have you listened to what we have to say,
We're not that important, it's all about you,
Therefore you don't care about our point of view.
You only want our grades up, to keep yourself climbing that career ladder,
Well don't you understand, that only makes us madder.

We're not a statistic, we're not a percentage,
We have feelings, emotions, are you getting the message?
Surely our success should have more importance,
Than a place on a league table
Or is our value getting shortened?
There aren't enough hours during the day,
To complete all the homework to the " perfect way "
We have 10 other subjects, not just yours,
You have no idea how we feel behind closed doors.

You talk down to us, treat us like we're kids,
Trying to tell us over and over, what the world forbids.
We're not all naive, blind or clueless,
One person can make us all seem so incredibly foolish
We have a mind of our own,
dreams we want to chase,
Who are you to tell us we won't get to that place?

If we respect you, why don't you respect us?
It's not a level playing field, therefore can you blame us?
For being rude, angry, frustrated and annoying,
Answering back, ignoring and disobeying?
You can say what you like to us
Such as you're a failure, you're not on the right track.
Why should we respect you, when we get nothing back?
You should be grateful, we work hard for you,
Trust me we could be worse and that is true.

This is a message to every teacher out there,
That thinks its easy for us when really it's such a lot to bear.
Not only the bashing from fellow school peers,
But also to hear it from you with our ears.
We're not that different, we want the same thing
So why do we clash when we both want to win?
Because we get put down, pushed aside,
You were a teenager once, you had similar stress
Can you really not remember how you were addressed?
There's so much pressure, more than you realize,
When we say we hate school,we're not being ungrateful
We're just sick and tired of being treated like we're hateful
Show us more respect, treat us all equally.
Can you really blame us?
We're judged all the time
But being a teenager is hardly committing a crime.

This is a poem, designed for other students to relate to. I spent quite a while working on this, and this is written purely by personal experience. Like, comment if you like it:)
