Guardian of Death

His presence I feel, wherever I move
Keeping me from a life improved.

He silently watches from afar
Cracks a smile with every new scar.

He listens to the never ending fights
Every night as daddies fists ignite.

Hears my screaming pleas of reprieve
Steps aside so mommy can leave.

He hovers over my prostrate frame
Eagerly waiting if it's His time to claim.

I gasp into battle cries
Disenchantment envelops His eyes.

The morning sun glows bright
Showing me there's only black and white.

Still, from my door, I can see
The dark shadow that's waiting for me.

I'm here to push all that pain aside
Never again will you have to fight to find the bright side.

Come here my child, follow me this way
I can make this all end, if you do what I say.

Hidden under your pillow, I've left you a gift
To release you from your life adrift.

I slide my hand under to reveal a silver blade
It hurts no more than ripping off a band-aid.

Biting my lip I grip the steel
Hastily slicing as my skin unseals.

He carefully nurtures my crimson wrists
Just one more incision, he persists.

Down the valley I pave.
I smile, finally I'm saved.
