Shadowed Starlight

She rode in on a horse as black as the night
With eyes of burning embers
From where she came, nobody knows
Where she went, no one remembers
The moon has been the only light
That her eyes have seen
Her home, the shimmering twilight mists
Alone have called her queen
Her gown is sewn from shadows
A black gossamer breeze
The raven alights upon her hand
To sing her melodies
The opalescence of the skies
Cannot best her starry eyes
Time stands still as she bends will
Makes frosted flurries when she sighs
And all the creatures twilight holds
Beneath its velvet wing
They bow their heads in reverence
When her lips part to sing
For if you wish to see her
You first must catch her ear
Sweet starlight serenades, she says
Are all she wants to hear
For if she seeks to hold you
Within her sweet embrace
If she longs to gaze upon you
With her ivory face
If daylight found you sad and cold
Within its radiant rays of gold
Don't cry, she'll say, for anyway
Fortune favors the bold
Her life is myth to speculate
But never understand
Who knows what she beholds
Within night's sweeping hand?
She built her castle on the faded land's lonely seclusion
The mists of the etherea her walls of cold illusion
Studded through the walls like shining stars
Fireflies hang from crystal jars
Flitting to and fro within
Tiny faces seem to grin
You walk throughout the paths
Trying to find your own way in
But if she doesn't will it, love
You'll just be lost within
For the sunrays themselves refuse to encroach
And turn back, ashamed, before they approach
To understand, if you must ask
Seems an impossible task
Perhaps to know would make it worse
The knowledge of her soul a curse
Maybe it is meant to be
That none shall know her destiny
We'll live our lives and so will she
Seperate in time's uncertainty
Yet one bright night I saw a light
Spin round among the clouds
As the shining stars like pinpricks
Sat upon night's silken shroud
I closed my eyes and wondered then
Just what my heart wished for
For all the things I used to love
Don't love me anymore
I opened my eyes and saw her ride
Beneath the snow filled sky
Be still, my heart, I fell apart
More as the time ticked by
She walked up to me with mothwinged feet
And shrouded, shadowed face
Her eyes caught mine, her smile sweet
And held still time and space
Her gaze was like a soft caress
That took hold of my senses
Her lips said not a word at all
But she burned through my defenses
We rode out on a horse as black as night
Her eyes like glowing embers
Why she chose me, no one knows
Where we went, I don't remember
