Dare I Risk It?

I sit in solitude because it is comfort
I know the void and all its pain
I've yet to learn of what it is to love
It's a stranger that I'm not yet ready to meet
For what if the pain is stronger
Than my old familiar comfort

And should I dare to take the risk
Then what will I become
To abandon all I've ever known
Just to feel a fleeting emotion

But perhaps if I can live it even once
I might understand the art of others
Why the poet's words are filled with sorrow
Or why the artist paints with heavy strokes
What it is about it that made them return to their isolation
