Night Terrors

Now I lay,
My head to bed,
My thoughts are filled,
With fear and dread,
I reflect back,
On things he said,
And fear I might,
Awaken dead,
I stir and toss,
My mind is lost,
Night time frights,
I grip my cross,
But dad is near,
He'll keep me safe,
And so I wait,
For day to come,
I start to drift,
I'm falling asleep,
But something odd,
Makes my spine creep,
A hand below,
My covers lurks,

I freeze in terror,
Not sure what to do,
His hand feels around,
I can't make a sound,
I move a little,
He knows I'm awake,
He shifts away,
Leaving me in terror's wake,

Why can't I run?
Why can't I scream?
Why can't I break free,
Of this frightening dream?
But a dream it was not,
A memory more,
Of a man that I'd thought,
I'd come to adore,
Father no more,
Friend never again,
You are now hatred,
Until the end.
