Possibility of Metamorphosis

Yeah, we came from poverty,
And we tried to fight the disparity.
Some of us fought to make it out
While the rest of y'all sat in doubt

You're blaming the rich for your failure,
But you should be pointing fingers at your behavior.

Listen to me, teenage minority.
Stop disobeying your authority.

You should stop checking.
And start respecting.

I get it, be who you want to be,
But you can do that without going on a shooting spree.

See, that's why we deal with discrimination.
Because it's only on occasion...

That people see us doing good
Instead of showing out in the hood.

And I'm tired of taking that blame.
Y'all out here showing out while I'm trying to make my name.

I know a lot of y'all can't relate
Because you think it's your "fate"

Just because your people didn't out
Doesn't mean you can't sprout...

To you full potential...

You say you gotta be what they were.
But that's naive of you to even infer.

See me? I got my education
And thus started my creations.

But that's not the thing...

For wanting to do good, you ridiculed me,
But just wait and see!

While I'm out doing something for my self and family,
You'll be home selling dope and gradually...

You'll be slowing dying,
Wishing you had ended up trying.

And you can get offended
But a lot of y'all are just demented.

Some of you act oblivious,
But if you're offended you're probably part of the ignorance.

So do me a favor,
And be braver.

Stop letting your friends run your life
Grow up, get a job, and a good wife.

You still have time.
Get an education, stop the the crime.

Well I'm done now
There's no sense in taking a bow...

When none of y'all are going to take a stand.
But here's my hand

I still believe in you.
But you have to believe in yourself too.

And just for your loved ones sake
Please remember your mistakes

I hope this sticks with you like tattoo ink.
But really...I'm just speaking what I think.

Alright, let's talk. So, I'm an African American teenage girl, and let me tell you, it's 2014, and I shouldn't have to face discrimination. We are not in the 1950 anymore. For me, I feel like so many people of my race are doing negative, and that's why we face the things that we do. See, some people only represent themselves, but around here, if you're a black kid, you're representing your whole entire race. All I'm saying is that we can't blame our problems on white people anymore. We have the same opportunities and chances at education. Yeah, there are still people who will judge us or put us behind because of race, but that should only encourage us to try harder. I just want kids to listen, you know? Yeah, college rates are higher than they've ever been for African Americans, but there're still too many of us gang banging and selling dope. Changes by Tupac says it all. Can we just agree to work hard and at least try? There are too many talented people in this world who are putting themselves to waste. That's all I have to say. Thank you.
