Time

I break out of the hourglass
At a quarter after midnight
But there he stands with whip in hand
Knowing of our flight

With my back against the wall
And with my heart pounding
I jump into the sands of time
The darkness is astounding

Shadows of ages lost and gone
Protect me from my foe
But who will protect you, all alone
From seeds of death we sew

Bones fall into inverted heavens
From the milky sky
Live upside-down and backwards, dear
For evil will not die

Evil is as evil does
Deep within your heart
Chip away the skin and bones
They'll see us for who we are

I surface from the inky past
And blink at the flooding light
An angel descends on gossamer wings
I tremble at the sight

But then a laugh starts in my throat
And chases the celestial spirit
I rip my heart out of my chest
And on my sleeve I wear it

I run now to confront my foe
But then stop on a dime
I see her bound in chains of ice
I have run out of time
