"Blank Lines"

I wait and wait for what seems like hours,
Though only seconds have ticked by on the clock.
I stare and stare, but the hands won't move,
Looking over my shoulder for you there when you're not.
Step by step, I'm trying to move closer,
Hoping, begging for this to be the last one.
Reaching out to you, you disappear again
And, searching again, I'm left all alone.
Word by word, I'm telling you without sound,
Screaming so that you hear me in time.
Frantically tracing words that disappear,
Speechless and left with only blank lines.
Memory by memory, you're forgetting me,
Until I'm nothing but fragments in your past,
And no matter how tightly I hold on to you,
No fantasy I drown in will ever last.
