Soul Surfers

They lay her to rest in the ocean with heavy eyes.
Trying to withhold their cries,
Bending beneath their thighs,
They hit their knees and exclaimed why

A small soul, not young nor old
Broken away from the life that we know
As the ocean washed her far from shore
The people watched her float away

They lay her to rest in the ocean with heavy eyes
Tears fell from even the sky
Not a soul could look away
On this dreary awful day

As they lay her to rest
We had to wonder why
As he watched his love sink with each wave
Not knowing if he could live past
Salt water, rain, and sweat rushed around him
What's next?

Mere hours later his mind is gone
Nothing but her face chasing his thoughts
His reign was over
His battle scars could never heal
Everything was easier with her there to fade the past
Now that she's gone
They knew he could never last

They lay her to rest on the ocean with heavy eyes
Their hushed cries muffled from the roar of the sea
Everyone knew his fate
No one could let it be
But what was one to do
You can't stop the inevitable
His will to live was floating away
He was gone the moment she took her last breath

Everyone turned as he walked away
Hours later his life was at bay.
They lay him to rest in the ocean with heavy eyes
Without withholding their cries
Bending from beneath their thighs
They hit their knees,
But they knew why.
