Her

A romance novel could've never prepared me
For the feeling of soberness as her words filled my head
As keystrokes became nerve-wracking
And words on a screen became heartwarming

The endless paragraphs I read of how
When her eyes fell upon him her heart became whole
Because when my eyes fell upon her my heart doubled
Because those hundreds of pixels on the screen popped up a whole other window

I don't know if it was her dark chocolate brown eyes
Or her quirky cute laugh that rings through my ears like sweet music
Her comforting coos in her erotic accent when I'm weeping
Or her cheesy jokes I've come to love even when I want to hit her

I've loved her since I didn't know who she was
And I love her now that I know who she is
I love her from her head
To her toes, even though I haven't seen her feet

She thinks they're gross

But those novels I read from age ten to fourteen
Never prepared me for the same gender as me
It's more than that though, it's like a train heading straight towards you
And your heart stops

Because you don't care in that moment
That moment that she smiles at me

Because three thousand, two hundred and sixty six miles
stand between her and me

And I've never felt more free.
