Winter's Beginning and End

Once upon a Winter day when frost covered the grass and trees,
when blue fairies fluttered about with a twirl and the gentle breeze,
A love formed at once when snow covered the ground in sheets.

The snow fell in love with the earth for she was warm and something forbidden.
The earth fell in love with the snow for he was soft and different.

She was hot and he was cold for sure they wouldn't last
But they never could separate and days and days would past,

Until the earth gave a shiver and claimed that she was dying,
Covered by the snow too long and the blue fairies cold ice magic,
the earth was weakening and weakening.

The snow realized that he shouldn't have fallen for the earth,
and as much as he loved her he could not stay or surely she would burst.

Instead he called upon the sun to take him to the skies
and bits and parts of the snow began to melt to let the earth dry.

She bid the snow a farewell with sorrow as she began to cry,
and set off chirping birds into the air to say goodbye.

The snow promised that he would watch her high up in the sky,
and once a year he would return to love his forbidden bride.
