Standing in the rain as you are--
How could you do anything other than drown?
Searching for the stars with such an expression,
Anyone would say that you were looking down.
Falling to your knees and screaming that way--
How could you ever get back up again?
Reaching out so blindly with desperation,
Anyone could claim your world would end.
Running towards the storm with all your might --
How could you expect any sunny weather?
Giving up the way you say you are,
Anyone could tell you that it won't get better.
Turning in circles without direction --
How could you ever find your way like that?
Stumbling forward without watching at all,
Everyone could tell that you were looking back.
Closing the door with so much finality--
How could you not somehow lose the key?
Pacing and staring blankly at the walls,
Anyone could tell that's not where you want to be.
Shutting your eyes to ignore the pain--
How could you do anything other than fall?
Even believing that you might not be so blind,
Everyone can see you as you run into that wall.
Over and over again, you always repeat.
How could you not expect an echo?
Holding so tightly the way you say you're not,
Anyone will tell you you're not letting go.
Fighting that hard until you lose strength--
How could you keep going on that way?
Holding back the tears and keeping it all inside,
Everyone can see you won't last another day.
Bleeding until you don't have even a drop--
How could you say that you won't run dry?
Although you whisper it over and over again,
Everyone can see you're trying to believe a lie.
