Consequences

Dear Mom and Dad

I did all the right things today
I think you would be proud
I did not drink or smoke today
I kept my feet on the ground

the fight that started wasn't me
but those who did are in solitary

I followed the ruled and respected the men
I never want to do this again
My girl is gone we've long been done
Now that I've been here, it's no fun

I'll be free in a year
but still be watched for two
That's ok, I won't be here
this stone and these bars are no longer cool

Once I'm free I'll get a job
I won't fight or drink or rob
I'll have to walk or get a cab
My license now belongs to dad

I realize what I did was wrong
I wish I knew the consequences all along
