Winter Winds

Ice forms atop his whiskers
He twitches
His sister pads behind him
And shivers in the cold
I watch to see what they might think
Of this new frozen world

He looks at me then explores
His sister runs back indoors
It’s too cold for her
He stays outside
His thick coat warm
He likes this strange white powder

I shiver in the cold and call him
But he listens not
He runs off chasing rabbits
Then I get caught
“Bring them back inside!” mother says
“It’s too cold from them!”

So off I go to find my friend
Tromping through the snow
Bracing against the icy wind
Shivering in the cold
It’s not hard to spot his coat
I find him in an instant
He comes to me, now paws are cold
And back inside we go
