Age

I hope that one day, one day when you’re
a little older and a little worse for wear,
you find yourself walking down some aisle
in some little shopping centre in an obscure
little town, and you run into someone that
you knew all the way back then.

And I hope it brings back memories of what
you were like back then, because,
my god; how long has it been?
Ten, fifteen, twenty years, maybe a little more.

And I hope you wonder what happened
to them, and how they ended up.
I really do hope you wonder this,
because that little conversation down
in aisle twelve that Tuesday is probably
going to be the only chance you ever get
to make that connection a second time.

I hope that in ten, fifteen, twenty years,
you have a reason to think back on what you
are now, because I know that you’ll be proud;
proud of what you were and proud of
how far you’ve come since then.
