Return of the Paperbone

in spacious planes of goldenrod and in between the trees
lay the wreckage of the creature that had wriggled from the seas
her eyes were glossy amber and her scales a rugged gold
but her claws they had grown twisted and her heart it had gone cold
and her spine was strewn in pieces and her lungs were rent to dust
and her memory was fading and with it faded her trust
those animals so arrogant in all their coloured fur
that hunted with her weapons and then sliced them into her
so in rising from her deathbed did the creature of the seas
reignite the fiery light within her eyes and in the trees
