That Keeps Us Alive

it is not the heart that loves
but the mind
that feels the suffering of heartbreak so strongly it makes us sick
that picks out flaws in the person staring back at us down to the last unsightly detail
making us remember what we wish to forget
washing away that of which we desperately try to cling to

the person that we are is not reflected in a mirror or a photo or in the meaningless words of another individual
because the person that we are is something no one can truly see
when the shape we take is that of our mother and father
moulded by the overwhelming feelings and decisions over a canvas of flesh...

it is not the mind that loves
but the person
that perceives love so strongly it causes the heart to skip a beat
that finds the beauty hidden beneath the make-up and dirt
remembering everything that made them who they are
shedding the unnessecary burderns and moving fowards to greater horizons
