The Struggle to Fit In

Do you think I’m pretty yet, stranger?
I’ve twisted and manipulated my features beyond recognition for you
My glasses are gone, I wear skirts, and I use expensive make up

Do you think I’m pretty yet, friend?
I’ve truly attempted becoming like-minded and similar
I watch mainstream TV shows and I often smile

Do you think I’m pretty yet, daddy?
I’ve tried many failed times to surround myself with you but can you forgive those walls I’ve so stubbornly held up against you?
Is it you who abandoned me, or I who abandoned you?

Society, am I yet pretty to you?
I’m trying and I’m trying but it’s so hard stand on your feet when you’re exhausted from being pushed into the ground so many times.
I’m starting to think I simply do not belong in such a world.
