Missing You

Sunlight shining down through the California leaves
hitting the ocean waves reminds me of the way
we were once meant to be.
The way Ella holds a flower out to me,
her little hands clasped so delicately
reminds me of what you wanted.
I drive down the coastal highway,
thinking that I need to get away
before it all gets to me.
The way I listen to a song by the Nationals
and reminding myself of the way
I wasn't always rational
but that still never changed your mind.
You weren't ever anything but a kind friend
and I always miss you when you're gone,
but I still miss you girl.
