Reliable

Old reliable sits in wait for her fallen, faded petal,
Staring at plastic boxes with glass cages
And rubber mouths and ears.
The new reliables are flimsy and flakey,
Are shameless and shaky,
Leaning on their lonely doormat
When they've nowhere else to go.
She's the only one this little mouse needs
When the halo falls to her feet.
Old reliable sits with twisted hands
A thousand miles away,
Trying to reach as close as air;
New reliables sit as close as air,
Trying to get a thousand miles away.
