Girl of Fire

She is cloaked in mortal innocence
Though a fire still burns in her eyes.
She longs for a day of freedom
But is continually set back by their guise.
She has been constantly beat down,
Held back by shackled ankles.
Dirt caked fingernails clawing at a mental cage
That she has never been able to untangle.
With heart aflame and a smoldering gaze,
The girl of fire burns the restraints holding her down.
With legs that haven't held weight in years,
Slowly, her trembling feet move forward, homeward bound.
