Her Only Wish

I always watched her as she worked,
serving customers with a tired smile.
Such a hard working girl,
yet no one really noticed,
what was going on in her mind,
how helpless she felt,
or how much her heart cried.
No one really cared,
no one other than me,
her only friend.

A year passed,
and her wish remains the same,
to find a job that could offer her more,
so she coud admit her mother to the hospital,
so she could eat a decent meal
without caring for the bills
or the debt left behind by her father.

Now she prays every single day,
for someone to hear her out,
someone to give her the help she needs,
and I try to be that person
but there's so little I can do.
I know that she will keep praying,
and so will I,
because no one really cares,
no one other than me,
her only friend.

For this contest, users are set the task of writing an entry that focuses on a promise or resolution that a character is set on keeping. Whether they end up sticking to it or breaking it, any result is allowed just so long as whatever the promise is can be identified, and the person who they made the promise to doesn't have to be themselves either!>>
