Broken Fairytales

I am the humble fool lost in the minotaur’s maze,
Snow white on the cusp of biting the poison apple,
Red Riding hood deviating from the paths,
Fiona locked in the tower with no company but despair.

My life started as a dream, a fairytale an amazing tale,
Now wherever I venture my world has become stale.
There is no more magic, adventures and nothing feels new,
Where it went wrong, I wish I had some clue.

When did the monsters overtake the land I called my own,
Rip the fibres of happiness and love I had so finely sewn?
The nightmares ripped my dreams to pieces, insignificant shreads,
Until the life I loved became a land of fears and dreads.

Is there chance of reprieve who can say,
This darkness inside is settling roots to stay,
The life I once held dear is no longer mine to enjoy,
Now I live in the rubble of land I thought nothing could destroy.
